Good morning. This is Monique cannon, the host of the welcome home with Monique show. And on this show, I talk all things real estate. Listen, I want to thank you for tuning in. Well, good morning, Las Vegas. This is Monique Buchanan, the host of the welcome home with Monique show. And I'm so glad that you joined me this morning because I have yet another great show for you. Listen, you guys know from time to time I do bring on nonprofits. And there's a reason for that. Real estate is not just about buying and selling houses. It's about Fostering Connections and supporting the well being of the people who make up our neighborhoods. So when I've talked to nonprofit leaders, I'm exploring the very essence of what makes up our makes our community thrive. Right. So on that note, I've got a real special guest on the line today. Mr. Marlon Greenwood. He is the president of the NFL alumni for Vegas, and he's also the CEO and founder of M G. 52. Foundation. I want to welcome you guys or introduce you to Marlin. Hi, Marlin.
Unknown Speaker 1:29
Hey, Paul, how you doing?
Unknown Speaker 1:31
I'm doing? Absolutely. Thank you for coming on the show. So yeah, we've got a couple things we're going to talk about today in regards to the NFL alumni first, can you just tell people what exactly that is? And?
Unknown Speaker 1:44
Yeah, absolutely. I'm the current president of the NFL alumni Las Vegas chapter. Our mission is to care for kids and care for our own. We have 44 chapters across the United States. And what caring for kids is self explanatory. We do different things in the community, like supporting different youth programs. One of the programs is mv 52. Foundation, the modern greener Foundation, we do free football camps where the kids would come on and support because they have to year to date, we've impacted about 1320 Some kids for free. In our free football camp program that we do have other local organizations that we support, hope link, just one project, the Public Education Foundation, and I care for kids that EY e CARE for Kids. So we just try to support all different types of organizations in the community that support youth programs and caring for our own means that the player that played pre 1993, to have to make sure that they were free agency, you know, I was one of the players that was able to benefit from that. My childhood dream was to have my family and in 2005, when I signed with the Houston Texans, because I started eight years in the NFL, for youth for Miami for youth for the youth and Texans I was able to do that. And that was something that I wanted to do since I was five years old come from Jamaica, and I was very thankful for those guys that back in pre 1993, I think is 1988 or something like that. I don't know the specific dates, but they went on to strike where were players in our free agency. And obviously, you can see the contracts that the players are getting now and how the NFL has grown. I just wanted to really respect what they've done for the game and for us and for the next generation coming. Right and my foundation was created to because I was a kid coming up looking for guidance and direction on how we're going to help my family and so I created the the modern greener Foundation, which is the leadership and mentorship program for for socio economic disadvantaged youth and adolescents, for anyone that's coming up looking for a way to learn to help their family and to be able to help themselves. So we can give them that direction. So I know how it feels like to be on that journey. So that's what I wanted to do to be able to give back.
Unknown Speaker 4:26
That's awesome. What a blessing that was. And you guys so the alumni is having a golf tournament. Is that right?
Unknown Speaker 4:34
Yes, we have our Super Bowl golf qualifier. The Super Bowl qualifier is going to be October 30. It's going to be at the Las Vegas Country Club shut down event at 8am. And every year we have to put on a qualifier will mention that the NFL alumni have 44 chapters across the United States and each year each chapter have to do a call Fire which this year the Superbowl of golf itself is going to be down in Orlando Florida from December 4 to the sixth we're the winner of each qualifier get a all expense paid trip down to the compete in the Super Bowl down in Orlando right and the winning team gets to bought a Golf Championship ring so it's kind of like it's like our you know you know the the Super Bowl yet we have the Super Bowl ago actually went guy retired you know that most of the time what they do to compete in
Unknown Speaker 5:37
right. Right without all the stress on there with the body with the less stress of the body golf. Nice. I love it. Okay, so you guys are having your your Super Bowl golf tournament is in. So what's the name of this tournament? I'm sorry that the last biggest country club
Unknown Speaker 5:56
so far the last biggest country club and it's the the Super Bowl ago qualifier,
Unknown Speaker 6:01
qualifier, okay got you.
Unknown Speaker 6:04
And with also the winning team that qualifies here, and when they get all expense paid trip to go down to Orlando, Florida, and compete in the Super Bowl golf with all the different chapters, and they get a chance to win the win there. So we'll get that way to get to borrow that championship ring. And hopefully this year, Las Vegas will be the winning, tap there. And we will take home the take home the ring, you know, we recommend that for more information about people who go through MD 50 two.org. And they could click on it and see all the details of the golf event. And they can see all the things that we were going to be doing.
Unknown Speaker 6:52
It is a fundraiser, is that correct? It's a fundraiser for the NFL alumni.
Unknown Speaker 6:58
Is it a fundraiser to benefit alumni of Catholic Charities initiatives as well as MVCC. For you program that we're doing, we're planning to do our toy giveaway up in North Las Vegas. December 17, and we're gonna be having our pre football camp coming up during the Superbowl week. We're gonna have it on Thursday. It's going to be the eighth to the 10th there were 8% now have our symposium then we're gonna have our, our the combine and camp the next day on that Friday. And the third year was an oversight on our 777 tournament. We're going to be putting up with alarm scale of Family Foundation. And we're going to be doing this and it's going to be a great, great event.
Unknown Speaker 7:53
Okay, great. So, so it makes it free. And that's always good. Awesome. So you guys, if you're interested, and if you're just tuning in this is Monique Buchanan and I've got Mr. Marlon Greenwood on the line. He was telling us about the NFL alumni golf tournament and is a Super Bowl golf tournament qualifier. And you can jump on him g 50 two.org. For more information or to sign up to compete, right.
Unknown Speaker 8:24
Yeah, absolutely. And they can also for other information about the Las Vegas chapter, they can go to NFL a vegas.org or Instagram. And actually, NFL is vegas.org is our website and Instagram has an affiliate Vegas, the NFL a NFL online Vegas when we're in Vegas, you know keep it short and locally Vegas on so that's our that's our Instagram and also our websites and Italy Vegas that works.
Unknown Speaker 8:55
Okay, so NFL a like the NFL a vegas.org is the website. And then if you just gonna jump on IG it would be at NFL a Vegas, and they can follow and get more information there as well. So that's awesome.
Unknown Speaker 9:13
No, no more information there and all the events that we have coming up. We also have coming up after that we have our huddle up, which is going to be on November 14 at the view and we also it's called it's called huddle up
Unknown Speaker 9:32
and it's no charge right I see that it's no charge November 14. Yeah, and they get to take a picture with you right Marlon? Get an autograph?
Unknown Speaker 9:43
Yeah, if we're if we're we give businesses the opportunity to network with each other by force businesses to connect with but we normally have this event every second Thursday of every month, but we were it was it was postponed due to 100 same circumstances, and we just wanted to do it here on November 14. And to to get it going. So good, good, good, good. Get back on our regular schedule and routine that we do to basically go off like a, you know, like a game setting like 4:30pm, they do we call it a pregame, you have five o'clock, we have the first network. And like I mentioned, everyone's gonna have like a sheet. And they have to be taught to connect with different businesses. And they collect points. Oh, that's fine. And you know, and we don't encourage them to stay too long or too short, you have to spend some time but they can't, because they want everyone to connect, and everyone wants to be able to select points and, and at the end, they win raffle prizes and where the decimal points to win. And at the end of the year, they're the one that for the most points to get a chance to get a cup of tickets to the door. NFL MLS league itself is Google Books. You know, the week of events that we have, they've been invited to those. So it's a really good deal. And it's actually give businesses a chance to really meet, you know, something, go to networking events, some people don't want to talk. They don't want people to introduce once. So this gives them the opportunity to force them in.
Unknown Speaker 11:27
Yeah. So you're, you're making people network at the networking event? Exactly. I love it. I love it. Marlon, where is that? Where is that at? Where do you guys hold that?
Unknown Speaker 11:41
It's going to be the venue changes. This one is going to be as a view at Viva Las Vegas is that 901 Greer drive, Las Vegas, and the zip code 89119. But all of it, they go to NFL Las Vegas, at our Instagram, they can get that information right here
Unknown Speaker 12:02
at n f L A Vegas. And then all the events and all the great things that the NFL alumni are doing are there so they can keep up with it and get that especially the networking, that's a really amazing, that's a great thing, you know, that you guys are doing? I mean, you guys are doing many great things. I love the toy drive you're doing on December 17? How can somebody contribute to you guys, you know, and maybe get involved.
Unknown Speaker 12:26
So with a toy giveaway for the the foundation, with the alumni involved, they could go to mg 50 two.org. And they can different ways for them to donate their contribute there as well. And that's, and that's the best way to go and be able to contribute.
Unknown Speaker 12:48
Can you elaborate on how, you know, the the funds that are raised, how they're being allocated and utilized by the NFL alumni?
Unknown Speaker 12:56
Yeah, so when when we mentioned earlier by the different organization that we support, and also in the type of youth programs and youth initiatives, right, you know, our goal is to be able to be able to connect with different programs within the community to be able to support so as we as we grow, and as we start to generate more resources to be able to support his programs. That's what we does. That's what we will do to support. Now we do mostly we do things with our MD 52 with the camps and supporting the program that we do auto with just one project we offer with the Public Education Foundation, as I mentioned, the IQ, which is not the whole thing. But we we just want to build upon that and to be able to do more hands on as a matter of fact, one of the events that I didn't mention was the Association of Fundraising professional Las Vegas chapter they have in their national philanthropic day, where I'm the gonna be the keynote speaker. This is on the same day where we have our huddle up, but this is earlier, it says 11am. And they are going to be I'm going to be doing the keynote speaker there just to talk about the different things that we are doing. And we're going to be we are going to be given away some scholarships to some nonprofit organizations. And these scholarships are going to nonprofit organizations so that they can event the event is going to be to be determined, but we're planning to have it at UNLV. We haven't solidified that yet. But we're going to teach them about it, educate them on how to properly fundraise through the American fundraising professional, they're going to come there and give us some hints and how they can be able to assist the organization because as a nonprofit organization, majority of time you spend your time on fundraising, right, because that's how we get the resources unless you're fortunate to get some grants coming in continuously every year. So they have, they have the heart to go out there to help people within the community. So we just want to be able to help that. That's all we're trying to do is to be able to to assist other organizations that are doing like minded things. Like we're doing like work camp for kids initiative within the community.
Unknown Speaker 15:31
Right. So you guys do the free football camp for kids, you do toy giveaways, the NFL alumni guys, main main nonprofits that they like to support have to do with education. Is that correct?
Unknown Speaker 15:45
Yep. And Education Foundation, opening it up. And the just one project with provide food they do on a
Unknown Speaker 15:56
scarcity. Yep. That's awesome. What that's great that you guys are doing that for every for for your community, you know, you're very involved in all of these great things. And for more information, or if they want to sign up for that tournament, they can go on to mg 50 two.org to sign up for the golf tournament, that's going to be on Monday, right.
Unknown Speaker 16:18
On Monday, actually, the the last day was to sign up on Thursday, Thursday at 5pm, because we wanted to make sure everything is organized. And, you know, maybe we could get everybody that signed up early to be able to get them there. So I was trying to hold the registration. Before the registration was longer, but they were like, it's gonna be too much work over the weekend to try and get everybody period up and everything so So unfortunately, the registration is down have been shut down since Thursday at 5pm. But they can still they can still be able to support and find out. You know, they can still contribute there, we're gonna have, we're gonna have lunch limits. And whatever the schedule here, we're gonna have this lunch, the lunch. So, so we are going to have our lunch at one 1pm. at Las Vegas Country Club, we have live entertainment system 12pm, shotgun, this is start at eight. By 12 o'clock, everyone should be done. So the award ceremony is going to be at 2pm. And so during that time period, I guess they could stop by there. They might want to stop by at 12 and go to the lunch go to the Chicago live entertainment and things like that.
Unknown Speaker 17:54
Okay, and that was at the Las Vegas Country Club Monday at 1pm. For the lunch. Yeah,
Unknown Speaker 17:59
Las Vegas at 1pm. And I will just have them. I've been in contact with our Community Affairs Coordinator here, we should probably let them have a way how they can just to make sure we have their name. Right. Right, right.
Unknown Speaker 18:19
Here, right. So did you want to give them a phone number that they can they can contact or should they just still go on the MG? 50 two.org?
Unknown Speaker 18:29
Yeah, they could. They could go and visit or they can send a message on the NFL a big Instagram. There we
Unknown Speaker 18:36
go. So if you want to get get connected with Miss Zakia you can go on at NFL a Vegas, and that's on IG. Now went real quick. I was really intrigued. I had never heard of the NFL alumni. And I didn't realize you guys also assists former players, right?
Unknown Speaker 18:56
Oh, yeah. So the NFL was started in 1957 You know, people that are watching the NFL today that the the millions of dollars we made and didn't know that. Back then, you know, most of the players that played in the NFL during that time, they had to have jobs in the offseason because you know, wasn't lucrative. Wow. So the alumni were created to help those players to be able to support them. And you know, during that process when they were you know, in the in the offseason whether or not and obviously over the years, we've gotten better and better but in pre 1993 I want to say what 1980 Either I don't remember the specific dates, but during that time between 99 They went on to strike two, three ever heard of free agent, they becoming a free agent, where the free agent go to the highest bidder after the For under the plan that was gave the players now to start to demand in the contract that they played proven themselves after four years, they know become like an unrestricted free agent, which means they can go anywhere they want, based on who's paying them, right. And that's why you see the ads. And over the years that that number has grown a lot to see these contracts that these players are getting. But but those guys are paid 399. As I mentioned, that would have never been, the problem wouldn't have happened. And that's how I was able to help my family. Because I was able to become an unrestricted free agent when I left Miami. And now they want to go to USC and assign beer. And when I signed my contract here, that's when I was able to have my seven brothers and four sisters of a big family. That was my childhood dream, coming up to help my family because I remember walking barefoot on the ground into makeup, and just looking one and to be able to find a way to help. You know, that's why I mentioned about starting the foundation was that was a reason to die because I was looking for a way to help you know, I was looking for the guidance of looking for the leads. Fortunately, I had my father who taught me, you know, do your best at any contest, and God would do the rest. So I was like, I didn't tell him that I wanted to do well, because I want to tell my family. I didn't share it with anyone because it's a personal thing that I wanted to accomplish. But I asked him, I said, you know, if you want to be successful, you could become a doctor or lawyer to become a doctor. I like helping people. So I made sure I was on a roll. I honor always marking periods. And then I got involved in that. Then I had a gym teacher that got involved got me above and the rest of them my sophomore year, and he saw how fast I picked up wrestling and he was the head football coach. And he he recruited me for football. It took him one month to convince him to play football I had no I wasn't even gonna play the game. Wow. And then after my first year of playing football, I got offered a full scholarship Syracuse University. Okay, I mean, it's a deep
Unknown Speaker 22:27
the morning Marla. And it was one of these. So just so we're clear. And if you're just tuning in, this is Monique Buchanan, host of the welcome home with Monique show. And I've got Mr. Marlon Greenwood, ex NFL football player as well as a CEO and founder of mg 52. Foundation. And he's also the President right now. Is that right up to the NFL alumni. Right?
Unknown Speaker 22:53
Yeah, yeah, alumni last week.
Unknown Speaker 22:56
And he was just telling his testimony. And so one of the one of the was the free football camps that helped you when you were young, that the NFL alumni put on, you want to give back because one of these programs actually helped you when you you came, that's what I was referencing.
Unknown Speaker 23:13
Oh, so when I was saying the program? No, I will say in the football game, our kind of represent that our youth coming up with no guidance, direction and football gave me that opportunity and go, that's one reason for me to start a foundation actually utilizing these football camps as like football to bring them in, but to really teach them about the importance of education, being on the right path and doing the right thing. One of the things I have not talked about, what we're trying to do is we're looking to put facilities in place. The MD 52 Olympic complex, endorsed by the NFL alumni Las Vegas chapter. It's going to be a 400,000 square foot facility. It's gonna have it's gonna have basketball, it's gonna have football, all the multisports. It's going to also have a charter school in there with three hours of education, three hours of athletic and have all the wraparound services at the pool programmers, for the kids that want to talk about mental health, behavioral tutoring classes, trade school, entrepreneurship classes, leadership classes, financial literacy, to be able to help the kids to get access to as many things as possible because kids don't know what they don't know. You know,
Unknown Speaker 24:37
right what a blessing that is. So if you're just tuning in, once again, I was speaking with Mr. Marlon Greenwood, and he's talking about the NFL alumni golf tournament coming up and that's going to be on Monday, but you can catch the lunch and go ahead and support them over there at the Las Vegas Country Club at 1pm. And if you want more information on that you can jump on mg 52 dot org that is one of that. Actually Marlon is the founder of that nonprofit and foundation as well. So we also have you guys we're also doing the free football camp that's December 8 through the 10th. They can get information at, at our on IG for is that right on at in fo a Begu.
Unknown Speaker 25:20
So the the camp, they can go to and refer to that or the camp is going to be in February, or winter camp during the Superbowl week, February 8 to the 10th. December Yeah, you're in your attendee, but you're thinking about that the toy giveaway? Oh, gotcha. Number 17. And, again, yeah, so all the information will be on the MG 50 two.org. For upcoming events.
Unknown Speaker 25:54
Well, I just want to say thank you so much for your guys's commitment to supporting our communities in a positive way. We really appreciate it. And I'm so happy that you came on today, and shared the information of the NFL alumni, and as well as your foundation, mg 52. That's awesome. So thank you, Marlon, so much for coming on today and sharing that information with us.
Unknown Speaker 26:19
Thank you very much.
